Brian Daboll Fired After Disastrous Start to 2025 Season

The New York Giants have officially fired head coach Brian Daboll following a disappointing 2-8 start to the 2025 NFL season. Once seen as a rebuilding savior, Daboll’s tenure ended abruptly after the team suffered yet another late-game collapse in Week 10 against the Chicago Bears.

According to Reuters, the decision came after mounting frustration from ownership and fans. The Giants had shown flashes of brilliance early in Daboll’s reign, especially during the 2022 playoff run, but the last two seasons turned into a nightmare.

When Brian Daboll took charge in 2022, optimism was sky-high. He led the Giants to a 9-7-1 record and even a playoff win — their first in years. Fans saw him as the man who could restore the glory days.

However, the momentum didn’t last. Injuries, offensive misfires, and poor defensive adjustments plagued the team. By 2024, the Giants had slumped to 3-14, and the 2025 campaign started no better. This season’s repeated collapses, despite early leads, sealed Daboll’s fate.

As The Guardian reported, the organization had “seen enough” after the Bears loss.

Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka has been appointed interim head coach for the remainder of the season. He’ll face a major challenge: rebuilding locker-room morale and stabilizing a broken offense.

According to The Sun, Kafka’s promotion is seen as a test run. If he manages to turn the team around, he could earn the permanent job heading into 2026.

Giants’ Midseason Move

There were several reasons for the Giants’ midseason move:

  • Blown leads: The team lost multiple games after leading by double digits.
  • Quarterback issues: Rookie QB Jaxson Dart struggled under pressure, and fans questioned Daboll’s play-calling.
  • Locker-room tension: Reports hinted that morale was low and that several veterans had lost confidence in the system.

After standing by him through the 2024 struggles, team ownership decided that “enough was enough.”

This marks yet another coaching reset for the Giants — their fifth head-coaching change since 2015. The franchise is desperate to find stability.

General Manager Joe Schoen will now oversee the interim period, but his own job may be on the line depending on how the team finishes the season.

The organization will begin a full search in the offseason, with early rumors suggesting possible targets like Ben Johnson (Lions OC) or Lou Anarumo (Bengals DC).

Fan Reaction and NFL Buzz

Giants fans are divided. Some believe Daboll deserved more time, while others feel his play-calling and clock management were holding the team back. Social media erupted within minutes of the announcement, with hashtags like #DabollOut and #GiantsRebuild trending on X (formerly Twitter).

NFL analysts, including those on FOX Sports, called the decision “inevitable” given the Giants’ inability to close out games.

With seven games left in the season, the Giants will focus on evaluating young talent and preparing for the 2026 NFL Draft. Fans hope this reset finally leads to long-term stability — something that has been missing for nearly a decade.
